5 Upgrades for Your Outdoor Spaces

We love upgrading our home in small ways throughout the year, during seasonal shifts, or just when we are craving a little at-home project. Below are five different upgrades and updates you can give your outdoor spaces, ranging in effort but all equally practical and fun! We hope you enjoy making the most of the space outside of your home and all the potential that exists to make it something just as comfortable and luxe as your interior space.

Artisan outdoor planters

No.1 Front Doorway

The entrance to your home is such a fun space to design, and we often do it around the holidays. However, adding seasonal plants and textured rugs year-round will keep the space looking lively and fresh. This is also a fun space to add more sculptural pieces of artwork that are weatherproof like these Stone Spheres from Pottery Barn. They pair well next to the Artisan Hand Painted Terra Cotta Planters, which are great for framing your door and adding a little touch of life to your entryway. Keeping this area well manicured and is a fun seasonal shift to give your home every few months when you’re in the mood for a low-budget and low-effort upgrade!

Blue checkered ping pong table set

No.2 Backyard

Give your backyard an upgrade with a few classic afternoon outdoor games. This Woody Cornhole Set is a gorgeous upgrade to such a fun and simple game to play with guests or family. It is easy to store in a garage or basement if the weather takes a turn, but the beautiful wood finish gives these a sort of mid-century modern look and we love it! Another fun and equally pretty backyard upgrade is this Checkered Table Tennis set sold at Anthropologie, which can be attached to any type of table that is longer and fit for ping pong. Both of these games are easy to set up and easy to play, adding a bit of fun to your backyard spaces without sacrificing good taste or design!

No.3 Pool

There is something about having a beautiful pool towel to lay on your lounge chair that just screams luxury. We love fun patterns and bold colors and we have rounded up a few noteworthy designs that will really revamp your poolside look. Brooklinen did a beautiful Artist Series Beach Towel collection and their prints and colors are so beautiful, we’ve considered using them in the bathroom too! Another towel collection we are loving is this set from Rifle Paper Company, which features their classic formal designs but also another more traditional-looking pattern. If you’re looking for a more classic beach towel, Marimekko is known for its wide stripe in an arrangement of colorways, and recently they did a fun take on a Fringed Beach Towel that looks perfectly summery to us!

Outdoor kitchen and bar space

No.4 Kitchen/Bar

What is better than having the weather that allows for outdoor eating and hosting? We heavily encourage sprucing up our back patio or a side garden to add in this Portside Outdoor Kitchen from West Elm. Any extra bar or countertop is such a nice addition to your outdoor setup and makes for easy hosting and fun relaxing. This one features a mini refrigerator and a few extra shelves and covered cabinets to give you the perfect amount of storage to keep things clean and organized. This particular set has build-on pieces, so you can upgrade or downgrade depending on the size of your space and what you will be using it for. Something like this will completely turn your backyard or patio into an extra room in the house. Hello outdoor living!

Outdoor patio with cement fire pit on the beach

No.5 Patio/Deck

This gorgeous Cement Fire Pit from CB2 can really go anywhere in an outdoor space. Wherever you have the most seating and tend to host and hang out, is exactly where you will want to place this piece. It has a more sculptural shape which gives it a modern update and it is best used on a fireproof outdoor surface. The look and feel that an outdoor fireplace can add to a space is immediately such an easy way to upgrade and elevate the look of your outdoor deck or patio. Another upgrade is making sure you’re as comfortable as possible when outside. A sun shade like this one can stretch over a larger space, and give you more protection from the sun than a normal umbrella could. Both of these updates make for easy relaxing when outside in the evening or during the day.
