2022 Interior Design Trends We Are Loving

As we continue to spend more time in our private spaces and homes this year, it only feels natural that we give the proper attention to every single element around us. Small corner patios, intricate light fixtures, and playful dinner placemats can transform our environment into feeling entirely new. 2022 is full of exciting design trends and we want to share a few of our favorites. These trends play with nature, sustainability, and timelessness and we are very excited to incorporate these elements in our design choices this coming year.

Textures Inspired by Nature

A slower way of living has us looking around at our environment and taking a deeper appreciation for nature. Objects and fabrics made from clay, wood, stone, and linen are allowing us to feel more connected to the outdoors, bringing in some of that clean and fresh beauty into our spaces. Choosing a long farmhouse dining table and pairing it with colorful linen placemats is a great way to add these natural textures. Layering a jute rug over a Mexican ceramic tile is another way to play with that soft and hard contrast, and both work to bring the outdoors into our home.

Elevated Outdoor Furniture

And now the reverse, we love making our outdoor spaces feel cozy and intentional. Patios and backyards can and do act as an extra room when designed properly. In 2022 a large emphasis will be on visually interesting outdoor furniture. So many of us have had to rethink the way we host and engage and it only makes sense to start investing in pieces that can help us do this in a thoughtful way while appreciating the outdoors.

Vintage Accent Pieces

When choosing these furniture pieces, a fun and sustainable way to start is by looking at what has already been designed and what is already available to us. Antique malls, estate sales, flea markets, and online resale websites are great ways to shop. No need to rush when shopping for these pieces and have fun so that you end up with a space that is both thoughtfully curated and timeless. An easy way to dip your toe into vintage furniture is by investing in antique artwork or light fixtures with interesting colors and shapes. Both are easy to find and can add visual interest to a room.

Bold Patterns and Colors

In the 2022 trend forecasts, researchers are seeing that the choices we are making seem to be alluding to the fact that we are all craving a little more fun in our lives. Now that many of us are working from home, our spaces have taken on more than what they are used to. We now rely on them to bring creativity and inspiration! An easy way to incorporate this trend is by combining it with the one we just mentioned, vintage accent pieces. We also are seeing this design element play out in the fabric choices around our home, with re-upholstery, curtains, and linens. Out with the muted colors and in with the bright hues!

Traditional Elements

What has come before, doesn’t always need to leave. Even though we like to look at each year with a fresh pair of eyes, there are really easy ways to stick to traditional elements while adding fun new objects to shift our spaces to align with our ever-changing selves. Traditional elements like wallpaper, large bookshelves, simple dining tables, and Windsor dining chairs are all coming back and are here to stay.

Bringing the outside in and the inside out, having fun with colorful vintage accent pieces, and looking at what continues to be timeless and comfortable are the 2022 trends that feel both approachable and exciting as we start to think about our spaces and their purposes to us this year!
