How to Achieve Timeless Coastal Summer Decor — All Summer Long!

Living in a warmer climate along the coast has heavily influenced our style and aesthetic choices, and therefore how we approach interior design. Getting that effortless, elegant feeling in your home doesn’t have to be complicated. We always talk about bringing nature into your home, and today we have specific suggestions as you work to maintain that beautiful timeless coastal look all year long!

Open and airy neutral bedroom

The Bedroom

Oftentimes the largest piece of furniture in our bedroom is the bed. Put the most focus here, and it will direct the rest of your room. To achieve a relaxing beachy feel that will last all year, choose linen bedding in a muted color palette. The material gives the rest of the room an organic feeling, and linen bedding feels incredible to sleep on, win-win! A few of our favorites are this set from Quince in Light Gray and this set from Parachute in Moss. Both the colors will work all year long as their hues are reminiscent of the surrounding outdoors.

Open tiled bathroom with glass shower

The Bathroom

This room is always so tempting to have the most fun, by choosing a bit of a riskier or more playful design element. It’s a smaller space that often is tucked away, so why not pack in a punch? Choose bright, colorful tile in the shower or as flooring. You can balance it out by choosing a simple linen color palette and layering rugs to soften the space. This can be a fun DIY if you have the right supplies and design experience, but it can also be a great task to pass off to a designer who understands your style.

The Kitchen

Bamboo cabinets or any wooden style cabinets are a great way to bring in a coastal aesthetic, anywhere, but especially in your kitchen space. They’re easy to wipe down and keep clean and are simply timeless. Choose a lighter wood rather than a darker wood to keep the space feeling bright. In this space, we chose to bring in that color of the tree bark, and in turn married the inside with the outside, our favorite way to pay homage to the beautiful surroundings.

The Living Room

Bright leafy plants in corners and on tables will have you feeling like you live in the jungle! Of course keeping things balanced is always important so choose the right shape and height carefully. Certain plants will work better by large windows, needing extra light while others will prefer the shade. Plants placed in corners should be a bit taller so they don’t get lost, and similarly plants on tables shouldn’t be as tall but rather have leaves that hang over the edge or stay close to the roots. Bonus Tip: Use diluted coffee grounds as a fertilizer for your leafy greens!

Decor Tips for Any Room

Use chunks of large coral or stones as decor pieces. Place a few stones on a coffee table book stack or on the bedside table. Pile your favorite stones into a glass vase and use them as an architectural element in your bathroom or on a mantel. Similarly, artwork that mimics the landscape like your favorite local birds or fish is a fun and unique way to add that coastal decor style into your spaces.
