5 Fall Interior Design Touches to Make to Your Home
With autumn in full force, it’s only appropriate for your home to make changes with the seasons. Depending on where you live, throw pillows with nautical themes or spring pastels accents will look out of place this time of year. At HSH Designs, we believe that seasonal changes allow you to be creative and adjust with the seasons. Instead of fully remodeling your home four times a year, here are 5 helpful tips to elevate your home decor to fit the season.
1. Replace colorful summer tones with classic neutrals
Sadly, the days off for summer holidays, the BBQs, and beach vacations are behind us. As we move into the fall holiday season, it’s only natural that our design styles shift. Bright yellows, blues, and pinks are not indicative of autumn, so it’s best to swap out those colorful throw pillows for neutral colors. Try beiges, browns, and muted rust hues to go with the rest of the natural furniture in your home.
2. Add dried flowers and branches
Depending on where you live, fresh flowers can be expensive and hard to come by especially as the weather is turning colder. Instead of fresh, try dried flowers, branches, and brown raffia. They will last throughout the season and go perfectly with the other neutral colors in your home.
3. Always keep a candle burning
Incorporating scents when designing your home is a great way to evoke a certain feeling when you or your guests step into your space. Scents like vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and apple, are all warm scents reminiscent of cool weather. You can also play around with different colored candles to go with your home decor. Our Signature Scent is a must-have year round with notes of amber, lavender, lemon, clove, tobacco and ginger.
4. Use your entryway to set the tone
The first thing you see in your home should set the tone for everyone who steps in. Warmth and neutral colors will be your go-tos when interior designing the space. If you have a table, adding tall candles with vintage brass candlesticks will create an inviting welcome. Accent the table by utilizing pinecones, cranberries, and other finds from nature to create a fall scene.
5. Feature heavy, cozy textures
Fall is the perfect time to cuddle up next to the fireplace with a good book and sip some tea. The scene isn’t complete, though, without a blanket. This time of year, opt for sherpa or fleece as a throw for your couch or bed. Knitted items are also great this time of year (no matter if you make it by hand or buy it at the store).
Whether you live in sunny Florida or in a colder climate, the seasons will follow you everywhere. Changing your home with the seasons helps you feel more comfortable in your space and really live the seasons, even if you’re seeing palm trees outside rather than falling maple leaves.
